Soydiesel fuel gets a boost

September 6, 1999 By admin

The Iowa Soybean Association has won a battle in an attempt to increase theuse of “soydiesel” fuel. Soydiesel uses a blend of soy oil to provide thelubrication needed in diesel fuel. Soybean Association executive directorKirk Leeds says a new development should make it easier for farmers to findsoydiesel. He says two gas terminal suppliers will blend the soydieseell fortheir stations.Leeds says when terminals blend the soydiesel, it’s easier for servicestations to offer it to customers.Leeds says farmers now need to push the use of the fuel.He says they hope to gain some of the diesel fuel market, which is just overthree million gallons for farm use.Leeds says increased use of soydiesel fuel could help increase the demand forsoybeans.
