Civil Rights Director to become warden at Mitchelville

The Director of the Iowa Civil Rights Commission is leaving that position tobecome the warden at the state prison for women in Mitchelville. DiannWilder-Tomlinson had worked in the Corrections Department for three yearsbefore being appointed to head the Civil Rights Commission in January of1999. Deputy Corrections Director Jeanette Bucklew says they’re happy tohave her back.Wilder-Tomlinson will replace Barb Long who was reassigned to a new positionin the Corrections Department in June. Bucklew says Wilder-Tomlinson facesthe challenge of overseeing the expansion of the prison and the addition ofnew staff approved by the legislature.Wilder-Tomlinson served as the Marshall County Attorney before joining theCorrections Department. Bucklew says they haven’t set a date yet forWilder-Tomlinson to take over the new job.
