Group warns of dangers with car batteries

The “Prevent Blindness Iowa” organization is campaigning for battery safetyduring the coming cold months. The group’s assistant director Amy O’Brienis trying to encourage everyone to use the proper techniques when trying tojump-start a car’s dead battery.O’Brien says you can face serious injury if you don’t charge your batteryproperly.Batteries contain sulphuric acid and hydrogen and oxygen gases that canexplode if they come into contact with a spark or flame. O’Brien says hergroup has free window stickers available that tell how to properly start adead battery.You can get the free instructional sticker by calling Prevent Blindness Iowaat 1-800-329-8782.
