MidAmerican Energy today announced plans for a new electric plant in Cordova,Illinois across the river from the Quad Cities. MidAmerican says the500-megawatt plant will supply about one-third of the electricity generatedfor MidAmerican’s customers. The 240-million dollar plant is the firstventure between MidAmerican and Calenergy since the two companies merged.Spokesman Robert Silberman says the plant will give them the most bang fortheir buck.Silberman says the plant will be environmentally friendly by producing lowemmisions.The plant will burn natural gas and use state-of-the-art technology to keepthe emmissions low. The new plant is supposed to begin operating in 2001.
