Iowa to test internet voting

Iowa’s Secretary of State wants to find out if Iowa voters are willing tovote on the internet. Chet Culver today announced a pilot project to testinternet voting in precincts in two Iowa counites in the November 2ndgeneral election.Voters will get the chance to vote on the internet in Woodbury and Johnsoncounties AFTER casting their regular ballots. Culver, a democrat, says onetarget for internet voting is younger voters as he says first time votersonly vote 10-percent of the time and 18-24 year old voters cast ballots only15-percent of the time. Culver says they want to see how well internetvoting is accepted and also how security measures for voting via computerwork.Culver says this project is part of his pledge to try and get more people tocast their vote in Iowa.Culver says he will evaluate the success of the internet project beforedeciding if he should ask the Governor and Legislature to approve internetvoting.
