Fire Marshal meets with contractors to try and end fires at the Statehouse

November 2, 1999 By admin

The State Fire Marshal is meeting with workers who’re renovating the State Capitol. Fire Marshal Roy Marshall has stopped renovation activities until workers prove they won’t cause another fire. A fire yesterday in a capitol dome caused 10-thousand dollars damage — and was the second such fire in a week. Marshall’s meeting with construction workers began at 10 a.m.Marshall says too many things went wrong yesterday. Marshall says he’ll do what it takes to protect the statehouse, which at the turn of the century caught on fire, damaging major portions of the House of Representatives chamber. The statehouse has five domes — the center dome is largest and covered with gold. The other four are smaller and covered in copper.
