Fire Marshall talks with contractors about State Capitol fires

November 3, 1999 By admin

State Fire Marshal Roy Marshall says he had productive talks yesterday with the contractors working on the state capitol renovation. Workers welding copper on a capitol dome have started two fires in the past week. The contractors are putting together a written plan and will submit it today. Marshall says they won’t move forward until the plan is reviewed and approved by him.He says the age of the building and the renovation work present some challenges in making sure everything is safe.Marshall says while there was some smoke blown into the capitol by the latest fire, there was not a great danger of mass destruction of the building.Monday’s fire caused 10-thousand dollars in damage.
