HIgh school football hits playoff quarterfinals

The quarterfinal round of the high school football playoffs are tonight. In class 4-A, second ranked West Des Moines Valley hosts fourth ranked West Des Moines Dowling. Valley lost a number of standout players from a year ago but did not miss a beat and coach Gary Swenson says a number of newcomers developed quickly.Dowling lost Nebraska-bound running back Dewayne Long to injury in the pre-season, but coach Matt Dillon says since then the Maroons have shown great progress.Also in 4-A, third ranked Cedar Falls is at Sioux City East. Cedar Falls coach Pat Mitchell says it will be a long road trip.He says the two teams do a lot of things the same way with multiple formations, good quarterbacks and runningbacks and a good kicking game. Mitchell says it will be a “honey” of a game to watch.In class A, 7th ranked Treynor is on the road to battle a Lenox team riding an eight game win streak. Treynor coach Steve Owens wants his team to grind it out. He says the longer they keep the ball the better off his team will be.
