Tobacco money coming to state early

November 15, 1999 By admin

Iowa’s first check from the tobacco settlement is expected to arrive in the statehouse mailbox several months earlier than originally planned. Bob Brammer, a spokesman for the Iowa Attorney General, says the first payment was to arrive in June, but things have proceeded at a faster pace. The payment is now expected in the next three to four weeks. Brammer says the early arrival of the payment will let the state gain some extra money in interest. The Iowa legislature will decide how to spend the tobacco money in the next session beginning in January.
