Hawks want to bring home Floyd to cap a disappointing season

November 16, 1999 By admin

The Iowa Hawkeyes close out the football season at home against Minnesota. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says the Hawkeyes want to get a victory for the outgoing seniors who he says have remained positive through a trying season. The tables are turned in this game. Over the years it has been Iowa going to a bowl game and Minnesota looking for an upset. This time, Iowa is a heavy underdog and Ferentz hopes his players take advantage of the opportunity.Ferentz knew nothing about the rivalry and “Floyd of Rosedale” until his first season on the Iowa staff. He says he thought some of the trophies in the Big Ten were silly until Minnesota beat Iowa and rushed over in 1981 to get the pig. Ferentz says he then understood what it was all about.
