Bush previews his foreign policy speech

November 18, 1999 By admin

Republican presidential candidate George W. Bush is calling for what he terms an era of “New American Internationalism.” During a news conference today in Des Moines, Bush gave a sneak preview of the foreign policy address he will deliver tomorrow.Bush rejects arguements from “protectionists” in both the Democrat and Republican parties who say international trade can hurt American workers and damage the environment. For example, Bush supports the idea of admitting China to the World Trade Organization. But Bush supports the trade embargo against Cuba because lifting it would help a “totalitarian regime.”Bush says American cannot retreat within its borders.Bush says free trade will create vibrancy in the American economy.
