Grant Wood works on sale

November 19, 1999 By admin

Three unpublished works by Iowa’s most famous artist will be sold today at an auction in Cedar Falls. The three drawings by Grant Wood are expected to fetch many thousands of dollars each, and one in particular is considered exceptionally rare, as Wood didn’t produce many works of art.James Jackson is president of Jackson’s Auctioneers and Appraisers, which is offering the three drawings at today’s event. The drawing called “Approaching Storm” depicts several men in the field, piling up shocks of wheat.Jackson expects the drawings by the painter of “American Gothic” to bring in a good bundle of cash. He says the above-mentioned “Approaching Storm” by Wood will be the biggest seller by far. He estimates it will go for 30 or 40-thousand dollars. The drawings are believed to be about 60 years old. Today’s auction begins at 10 a-m.
