HUD sends money for elderly housing in Iowa

The federal Department of Housing and Urban Development is sending Iowa five-point-three million dollars to build low-income housing for the elderly in Boone and Davenport. Part of the grant will also provide rental assistance to senior citizens. Iowa Congressman Jim Leach and Senators Chuck Grassley and Tom Harkin joined together in a conference call to announce the funding. Leach says the new money will help ongoing efforts to create affordable housing in DavenportSenator Harkin says the funding is important for a state like Iowa which has the largest population of people over the age of 80.Harkin says affordable housing can have a major impact on someone with a fixed income.Senator Grassley agreed.The two projects will create 68 affordable housing units.
