One first time, one new football champion

November 19, 1999 By admin

The Class A championship game is over at the UNI-dome, and last year’s champ gets the crown. West Bend Mallard defeated Madrid for the second straight year in the championship game 32-29. Top ranked West Marshall claimed the 1-A state football championship with a 24-15 victory over seventh ranked Algona Garrigan. West Marshall coach Ken Winkler became the first coach to win championships with two different schools. He also won as the coach of Treynor 20 years ago.
