Senator Grassley says he is confident in Y2K readiness

November 23, 1999 By admin

A new Congressional report warns America’s air traffic control system is NOT prepared for Y-2-K and could be at risk of failure in 38 days. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says he’s been told there could be a few minor glitches, but had been under the impression F-A-A computers would be running smoothly.Grassley says he was recently briefed on the issue by Utah Senator Bob Bennett, the Senate’s chief investigator on the year two-thousand computer problems. Grassley says Bennett’s findings were contrary to the new report from the U-S House on Y-2-K. Bennett told Grassley the U-S is in good shape, but he was concerned about flying overseas.Grassley says Bennett had done a lot of research and seemed to know what he was talking about. The House report says other federal programs that are “at risk” of Y-2-K failures include: Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, child nutrition and unemployment insurance.
