Retailers looking for holiday help

November 24, 1999 By admin

The holiday shopping season is about to hit full tilt and retailers across Iowa are ho-ho-hollering for help. Larry Paul of the Iowa Workforce Development office in Mason City says the record low unemployment rate makes it a challenge for some businesses to meet demands.Paul says in many cases, hopeful workers can practically write their own schedules with new employers. For Iowans who are looking for extra cash, Paul says now is THE time to apply for a job — especially temporary positions. The state’s unemployment rate in October set a new record at two-point-two percent, down slightly from September’s jobless figure, which was also an all-time low. The U-S unemployment rate stood at four-point-one percent.
