December 1, 1999 By admin

Des Moines police say a garbage truck driver found the makings for a pipe bomb in a dumpster this morning near a busy intersection. Lieutenant Kelly Willis says the device could NOT have exploded.Three booby-trapped pipe bombs were found in the Des Moines metro area during November, including one that exploded Tuesday near a school bus stop. Willis can’t say if the remnants found this morning are the work of the same person who set the other devices — or if it’s someone else.Early in November, a bicyclist was hurt when her bike tripped a bomb that was wired across a Des Moines bike trail. Another bomb was found in Urbandale attached to a pickup truck — a device that was removed and exploded by federal agents.
