AARP says medicare not doing the job

The American Association of Retired Persons released a national study today in Des Moines on the cost of health care for the elderly. A-A-R-P Legistlative Director John Rother says the study shows medicare isn’t doing the job.Medicare recipients spend one fifth of their income or 200 dollars a month on health care. Rother says the numbers are worse for those who are seriously ill.He says the study shows the need for increased coverage of prescription drugs.Rother says the A-A-R-P will push presidential candidates in Iowa to set clear positions on medicare and prescription drug payment.One-out-six voters in Iowan are age 65. Iowa also has the largest population of people over the age of 80 in the nation.
