The cold weather’s here and a wave of flu-like illnesses is washing over parts of Iowa. Dr. Michael Sparacino of Mason City says several viruses have been keeping residents across the state from going to school and work lately.Dr. Sparacino says some types of anti-viral medications have just been made available which may help victims of the bugs.Sparacino says there’ve also been a lot of flu cases lately. He says the flu season came early, but it’s not over yet.Sparacino says this trend of illnesses is expected to continue for several weeks. He says one way to avoid the bug is through good hygiene practices.
