State reviewing fatal care facility fire

December 9, 1999 By admin

State officials are reviewing the death of a mentally ill woman who apparently died after setting herself on fire in a Linn County care center. An employee of the Abbe Center for Community Care near Marion found 51-year old Ann Harford with her nightgown on fire yesterday morning. Harford died last night at the University of Iowa Hospitals. Abbe Center officials say Harford started the fire, but it was not a suicide attempt.
