December 16, 1999 By admin

While the shortage of veterinarians is growing severe in some of the nation’s urban areas, Iowa could use a FEW good men and women with veterinary degrees. Iowa Veterinary Association executive director Dave Furneaux says up to 10 percent of “solo” veterinary practices could use some temporary relief.Furneaux says larger practices are looking for help, too.Furneaux’s association hopes to help find about a dozen traveling “temp” vets.Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine graduates about 100 vets each year, but Furneaux says most are lured to out-of-state jobs. There are 90-thousand veterinarians in the country.
