Counties question road tax distribution

Many of Iowa’s county leaders are lobbying for a change in how road use tax funds are distributed by the state D-O-T. Cerro Gordo county engineer Jim Witt says the current system is very unfair.Witt says Cerro Gordo County is 89th on the money list out of 99 counties but is ranked 11th in population. He says there’s a great “inequity” in how the money is passed out. Witt says the funding formula the D-O-T follows needs a major overhaul.Witt says the D-O-T is looking over needed funding changes for his and some other counties.
