Tama meat plant employees find themselves facing Chrismas without jobs

Days before Christmas, the I-B-P meatpacking plant in Tama has closed, putting more than 400 people out of work. The company is trying to find jobs at other plants for the effected Tama workers, but for Miguel Guzman-Melchor, that means moving his family of five out of Tama.I-B-P blames the closing on a shortage of workers and market-ready cows, but worker Daniel Morris blames the trouble on something else on a lack of respect for workers.Company spokesman Gary Mickelson says I-B-P does respect its workers and is helping them find new jobs.The Tama plant’s last day in operation was Monday. The company has owned the plant since April of 1995.
