Gore again pushes education inniatives

December 22, 1999 By admin

Vice President Al Gore promises a 10-year, 50-Billion dollar initiative to send all American four-year-olds to public pre-school. Gore appeared at a town hall meeting on A-B-C this morning — it was staged in a Des Moines elementary school — and he promised universal pre-school for four-year-olds if he’s elected President.Gore would expect states to match the 50-Billion dollar federal investment to ensure all four-year-old are enrolled in pre-school, more three-year-olds are, too, and Head Start for low-income toddlers is expanded as well.Gore supports another 25-Billion dollars of interest-free bonding authority for schools which want to improve or expand their buildings.Gore’s in the midst of a two-day campaign swing through Iowa. He appears tonight in Ames at an ag forum.
