Democrat Governor gets no free ride from Legislative Democrats

December 25, 1999 By admin

Democrats in the legislature aren’t endorsing some of democrat Governor Tom Vilsack’s ideas. Governor Vilsack has proposed tax credits for professionals needed to fill jobs in the state, people like teachers and computer engineers. House Democrat Leader David Schrader, though, is skeptical of using the tax code to modify people’s behavior. Senate Democrat Mike Gronstal says democrats are also skeptical of the Governor’s wish to let Iowans vote by referendum on all future sales or income tax increases. House Democrat Leader Schrader isn’t keen on the referendum idea. The legislators made their comments on Iowa Public Television.
