Fun-seeking snowmobilers have to follow the rules

December 25, 1999 By admin

It’s the first full weekend this season with snow on the ground — and that means the whine of snowmobiles will be heard in every county statewide. Iowa Department of Natural Resources officer Randy Schnoebelen (schneb-lin) says the trails are great for snowmobiling, but people have to mind the laws. Schnoebelen, who is based in Clear Lake, says if you plan to drive a snowmobile on any road, a certain item has to be shown — a fluorescent orange flag. Something new this year, he says snowmobilers also have to carry proof of insurance. For more information, contact your nearest D-N-R or county recorder’s office.
