Fugitive caught after five days on the run

A prisoner who escaped from the Audubon county jail has been captured in Polk County. 30-year old John Gaines was found hiding in a crawl space of a house in Altoona around 12:30. Polk County officials say they received a tip on Gaines’ location. Gaines broke out of the Audubon County Jail Sunday and stole a squad car that was found wrecked Monday in Dallas County.Audubon County Sheriff Bill Shaw says Gaines’ sentencing hearing for a conviction on drug and child endangerment charges will be held Monday as scheduled.Shaw says Gaines will be held in maximum security where he will be locked down and let out only long enough to take a shower each day.
