Ames to pay bonuses to new cops

January 12, 2000 By admin

Ames is looking for a few good — police officers. As many as eight cops are quitting for higher-paying jobs or are retiring in the next few months. The Ames police chief has convinced the city council to offer 25-hundred dollar bonuses to new recruits. Police Chief Dennis Ballantine says he’s confident good officers will be hired for Ames. Ballantine says they’ve never had a problem getting recruits, but with number of vacancies coming up he felt the incentives might speed up the process.
