Republican leader says no to changes in venture capitol fund

January 18, 2000 By admin

The republican leader of the Iowa Senate objects to a democrat plan to change a venture capital fund designed to help farmers develop so-called value-added processing facilities. Democrats say the Iowa Agriculture Finance Corporation hasn’t done anything with its 25-million dollars, and it’s time to move that money to different projects. Senate Republican Leader Stewart Iverson of Dows disagrees. Iverson says jerking the money out and spending it in other ways is “short sighted” and won’t help agriculture in the long run. Iverson says it may not look like it, but the corporation is working and it just needs a little more time.Iverson says the corporation is working with additional investors on some projects that he can’t discuss until they get farther along.
