Man faces voter fraud charges in bizarre case

February 2, 2000 By admin

Voter fraud and hate crime charges may soon be filed against an openly-gay Seattle, Washington columnist, who admits illegally taking part in last week’s Iowa Caucuses. In the alternative magazine “Salon,” Dan Savage says he used a Des Moines hotel address to vote. Savage writes he posed as a Gary Bauer backer to try & infect the candidate with the flu by doing things like licking doorknobs at Bauer’s headquarters. Now Bauer spokesman Tim Goeglein says they’re considering legal action against Savage.Savage dislikes Bauer’s stance on homosexuals & wanted Bauer to get the flu to slow his campaign. Bauer finished 4th in the Iowa Caucuses & 5th in New Hampshire. Speaking to Radio Iowa from New Hampshire, Goeglein says the republican candidate didn’t get sick.If Savage is charged with voter fraud & convicted, he could face a fine of up to 75-hundred dollars and up to five years in prison.
