Cedar Rapids policeman injured in chase

A Cedar Rapids policeman is hospitalized in serious condition after an early morning accident during a chase on Interstate 380. Officers were trying to stop a speeding car for traffic violations. Police Captain Phil Peters says Sergeant Tom Jonker was helping in the chase when the accident happened.Peters says the investigation has been turned over to the Linn County Sheriff’s Department. He says the car police were chasing had dealer license plates.The Iowa dealer plate number was 4-1-1. Police believe the car did NOT belong to the dealership, but that the plate had been lost or stolen. The car is a green or blue-green two-door Chevy Cavalier.
