New trial for Des Moines woman begins in Davenport

February 7, 2000 By admin

The re-trial of a Des Moines mother accused of murder opens in Davenport today, where the case was moved due to publicity.39-year-old Heidi Anfinson is accused of drowning her infant son in September of 1998. Anfinson claimed two-week-old Jacob drown in the bathtub while she was talking on the phone & smoking cigarettes & that she panicked & tried to hide the body. She led police to find it beneath the waters of Saylorville Lake in Polk County, held down by 25-pounds of rocks. Anfinson’s first murder trial ended in a hung jury last year as one juror wouldn’t vote to convict. Her lawyers say the case got such extensive coverage in Des Moines, she couldn’t get another fair trial here.
