Vilsack signs education funding bill

Governor Tom Vilsack today signed legislation which promises Iowa’s publicK-through-12 schools a big cash infusion for the 2001-2002 school year.In the 2001-2002 school year, state aid for schools will grow by78-and-a-half million dollars, a figure agreed to by the Governor andlegislators.While the decision’s been made on the biggest piece of state spending onpublic schools, Vilsack says there are other decisions to make. Forinstance, Vilsack recommends a nearly 10-million dollar increase in statespending on so-called “alternative schools.”
