Stake out leads to stand off in Butler County

February 14, 2000 By admin

Butler County Sheriff Tim Junker says a stake out at a farm co-op turned into an armed standoff. Deputies were watching a co-op near New Hartford last night when a man showed up to allegedly try to steal the anhydrous. He took off when deputies approached. The sheriff says shots were exchanged before the man hid out in a garage at a farmstead. 39-year old Kurt Kiewiet (key-wit) of Cedar Falls stayed in the garage overnight and finally gave up this morning. Kiewiet is charged with possesion of a firearm as a felon. Other charges are pending.
