Guide dog killed in accident

A visually-impaired Des Moines man was nearly killed about six o’clock this morning while walking with his guide dog. Police Sergeant Bruce Elrod says 47-year-old Robert Chambers narrowly escaped being run down in the roadway by a passing motorist.Sergeant Elrod says Chambers was NOT injured, but the seeing-eye dog was killed. Elrod says the golden retreiver, named Zoe, was a very expensive canine.Because of its training, the dog was worth 17-thousand dollars. Elrod says NO charges are expected to be filed in the case.
