Businesses approved for enterprise zone expansion

The Iowa Department of Economic Development has approved the expansion of three companies under the state “enterprise zone” program. D-E-D Marketing Manager Phil Thomas says the enterprise zones are areas that have been identified by the state as “economically depressed.” The Swift Eckrich company in Denison is one of the businesses with expansion plans.Eckrich will add 60 people in a four-million dollar project, Evapco of Lake View is investing three-million dollars to build a plant that makes refrigeration equipment. It’ll create 60 jobs. And the Humboldt Sausage Company is creating 10 new jobs with a 640-thousand dollar expansion. Thompson says the businesses get various state benefits for expanding in the enterprise zones.Thompson says the businesses will, in most cases, also get benefits from their local governments.
