Top ranked team in 2-A ousted

The top-ranked team in class 2-A was upset at the boy’s state tournament on Tuesday. Senior guard Jack Brownlee had 19-points and four assists as seventh-ranked Fort Dodge St. Edmond edged top-ranked North Cedar 48-45. St. Edmond fought off a sluggish start that saw North Cedar grab an early 8-0 lead.In the class 3-A quarterfinals, Lewis Central outscored Waukee 26-9 in the third quarter enroute a 71-62 victory. Carl Rezac (ree-zak) led Lewis Central with 22-points on ten-of-13 shooting. He says they had to regroup after trailing by eight at the half.Waukee coach Mark Tigges (tig-es) was sorry to see the second quarter end. The Warriors outscored Lewis Central 21-6 in the frame to take the eight point halftime lead.Also in 3-A, Matt Uthoff (you-toff) led four players in double figures with 17-points as top-ranked West Delaware got by Knoxville 76-62.West Delaware built a 21-point lead at the end of three quarters but Uthoff says Knoxville never gave in.Knoxville coach Randy Wilson said West Delaware took advantage of their superior size.
