Bill would ban rent control

Iowa cities and counties may be barred from imposing rent control ordinances under a bill which has cleared the Iowa House and Senate — headed to Governor Vilsack’s desk. Representative Gary Blodgett, a republican from Clear Lake, says the free market should dictate rental rates.Blodgett says those who own property in “rent control” districts have a hard time keeping the property in shape while trying to make a profit.Blodgett says there are no “rent control” districts in Iowa.
