Governor again threatens veto of Republican budget

March 27, 2000 By admin

Governor Vilsack this morning vowed to veto a Republican spending plan which he contends will lead to higher tuition at the state universities in Ames, Cedar Falls and Iowa City.Republicans say they intend to provide more money to Iowa, Iowa State and U-N-I next fiscal year, as they plan to provide additional cash for professor pay hikes. House Republican Leader Christopher Rants of Sioux City has received over four-hundred e-mail messages on the issue. He says parents are upset until he tells them how much money they’re appropriating and that they’re not cutting funds. Students from Iowa, Iowa State and U-N-I plan a statehouse protest at mid-day Tuesday.
