Meth cleanup program out of money

April 4, 2000 By admin

A federal program that pays for the environmentally-sound clean-up of methamphetamine lab sites in Iowa and nationwide is out of money. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley supports adding ten-million dollars to the Drug Enforcement Agency’s important effort.Grassley says a committee vote on the program funding -was- expected today but has been pushed back until next week due to the budget debate. He says the meth clean-ups have to be continued. The number of meth labs busted in Iowa has grown from just a few dozen in 1997 to more than 800 last year.
