Members of the state’s largest teachers union are bending the ear of Governor Vilsack this morning at a town meeting in Ames. Iowa State Education Association spokesperson Lana Oppenheim-Schlapkohl says they’re talking about the looming teacher shortage. The meeting is part of their annual convention in which some 500 teachers will gather to talk about policy.She says teachers are worried that too many of their colleagues are going to retire.Oppenheim-Schlapkohl says the governor has indicated he is aware of the problem and willing to try and find a solution.The I-S-E-A’s annual delegate assembly will follow the meeting.
