Iowa coach speaks at prayer breakfast

April 20, 2000 By admin

University of Iowa basketball coach Steve Alford was the keynote speaker at this morning’s Iowa Prayer Breakfast in Des Moines. Alford told the crowd of more than a thousand that he has a daily committment to the Christian lifestyle in everything he does. Alford was recently warned not to write “God’s blessings” next to his signature on letters to University of Iowa faculty and staff. He did it anyway. Alford said if it became that big a deal, then he’s in the wrong profession. He said his love of basketball does not supercede his love for Christ. Alford recommended daily spiritual workouts, and more than just an Easter Sunday visit to church. Alford will speak at an Easter Sunday service at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City.
