New book looks at Iowa’s envrionmetal history

April 21, 2000 By admin

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is releasing a new book on the state in honor of “Earth Day.” D-N-R spokesman Ross Harrison says the book “Iowa – Portrait of the Land,” is designed to teach Iowans about the environmental development of the state. He says it dates from pre-settlement times through now. Harrison says it’s important to know where the state has been before we can plan for the future. The 89-page book has a soft cover and contains color photographs of Iowa people, landscapes and wildlife. The book is now available at state D-N-R offices for five dollars. Or you can see the book on the Internet at:www.state.ia.us/dnr. Harrison says they plan to put together a curriculum guide to go along with the book for use in Iowa schools.Harrison says they will distribute the book to several commercial stores later this year. Tomorrow is Earth Day 2000.
