With the 91st Drake Relays complete, several native Iowans now look to earn berths on the U-S Olympic track team. Former U-N-I standout Joey Woody won the 400-hurdles at Drake and now has his sights set on the Olympic trials in July. He has a good shot at making the U-S team.Woody posted a winning time of 48-point-88 seconds and feels he will have to go a little faster to make the Olympic team.Defending Olympic gold medallist Derrick Adkins finished third in the 400-hurdles at Drake and admits he has a ways to go if he wants a return to the Olympics.Another Iowan hoping to make the Olympic team is Kevin Little. The former Drake standout has been sidelined about a month with a stress fracture in his foot and will begin jogging this week. Little says there is still time to get in top shape for the 200 at the Olympic trials. He says the hard part is staying off the foot until it heals all the way.The top three in the 200 will go on to the Olympics and Little feels he has a chance against oustanding competition.Saturday at the Relays, Gabe Jennings anchored Stanford to a victory in the distance medley relay and said the atmosphere helped him post a career best in his 16-hundred meter anchor leg. He says you don’t get the energy and enthusiasm on the west coach.Olympian Paul McMullen was second in the special mile-run. McMullen posted a sub four minute time and said his training has been geared to run his fastest at the trials this summer.McMullen says his training has been geared toward the Olympic trials and he does not want to break that to run his best right now.
