Three Iowa boxers advance in Golden Gloves

Three Iowa boxers have advanced to the quarterfinal round at the National Golden Gloves tournament of champions in Detroit. 125-pounder Marcos Ramirez of Des Moines defeated Kenyon Lowe from Knoxville, Tennessee. At 156-pounds, Tony Green from Plano beat Joseph Brady from Colorado and Des Moines Heavyweight Rydell Booker defeated Stan Looker of Texas. Iowa Golden Gloves President John Connors says it is the best an Iowa team has done in a number of years.Connors says advancing to the quarterfinals is a great accomplishment, considering the outstanding competition from 32 franchises across the country.Quarterfinal round bouts are tonight.
