A three-time presidential candidate and civil rights activist will deliver the commencement address at an eastern Iowa college this Saturday. The Reverend Jesse Jackson was invited to Mount Saint Clare College in Clinton by a student who thought it was time for an African American to speak at the institution’s graduation ceremony.Graduating senior Teriya Young got permission from the president of the college to select such a speaker. She says she came up with a list of prominent African-Americans, and Jackson was at the top. Young is from Chicago and feels that Jackson can understand how important it is to have him there.Young says the faculty, staff and students at Mount Saint Clare are excited about Jackson’s appearance.One-hundred-35 Mount Saint Clare students will be awarded diplomas on Saturday.
