"Snowbirds" may hurt Iowa Census count

May 4, 2000 By admin

Congressman Leonard Boswell is worried Iowans who fled south to avoid Iowa’s winter weather may’ve hurt the state’s census count.Boswell says many of the so-called “snowbirds” filled out census forms in their winter homes in Texas and Florida. He says they should’ve filled out the forms in Iowa.Boswell, a democrat from Davis City, says without this group of Iowans, the Iowa census count could be too low.If you filled out a census form while you were wintering in another state, Boswell says you should call your local census office to fill out a new form for Iowa. The Census numbers help determine how much federal money is sent to each state — and how many Congressional districts the state will have.
