Iowan advances in Golden Gloves tourney

For the first time since 1991 an Iowan has advanced to the championship round at the National Golden Gloves Boxing tournament. Heavyweight Rydell Booker of Des Moines defeated Anthony Stewart of Wisconsin Thursday night and will face Devin Vargas of Toledo in the title bout Saturday night in Detroit. Iowa Golden Gloves president John Connors.says it has been a great week for the Iowa team which advanced three into the quarterfinal round and says all of their supprt will be behind Booker for the title bout.Connors says Booker is very calm in the ring and that has been an advantage in the tournament setting this week.Connors says Vargas will be a tough opponent in the championship for Booker.
