Iowa Conference softball race ends in tie, playoff ahead

May 6, 2000 By admin

The Iowa Conference softball race ends today with the possibility of a three team playoff on Sunday to determine the automatic qualifier into the N-C-A-A regionals. Coe is 17-3 and has completed the regular season. Central and Simpson are both 15-3 and if one or both sweep they will join Coe in a playoff in Waverly. Central coach George Wares believes beside the champ, at least one other Iowa conference team will get one of the five at-large spots from across the country.Wares says for his team the playoff started by winning two close games against Wartburg on Thursday.Simpson plays host to Luther in a doubleheader and coach Henry Christowski says it is a must win situation for his team.Christowski says while the Iowa Conference may be the best division three softball league in the country, the reality is one of the three teams will be left out when the selection committee meets Sunday night.
