UNI president again blasts budget

May 8, 2000 By admin

The leaders of the state-supported universities continue to complain that Republican legislators and Governor Vilsack short-changed the universities’ budgets. University of Northern Iowa president Dr. Robert Koob says the budget plan doesn’t provide enough money to cover negotiated pay raises for campus faculty and staff — so there will be program cuts. The latest tuition increase was just over four-percent, and Koob predicts next time around, tuition at Iowa, Iowa State and U-N-I will go up at least eight percent.Ironically, Governor Vilsack will sign the education spending bill into law Wednesday at the University of Northern Iowa.
